​English Lutheran is hiring! Join our fun, dynamic team and work with some of the best Lutherans around! We are currently hiring for a Cook/Kitchen Coordinator, Administrative Assistant, and a Custodian.
Cook/Kitchen Coordinator Job Summary
English Lutheran Church is looking for one dependable Cook/Kitchen Coordinator to oversee our Sunday Coffee Fellowship and Wednesday Night Meals, along with needs of the kitchen such as getting groceries, ordering supplies, and keeping things clean and running smoothly.

Sundays include preparation and set up of coffee, lemonade, and water for members to enjoy between services, along with break down and clean up. Sundays are year-round with allowance for occasional weekend off. Hours approximately 7:30-11:30am.

Wednesday nights is light-duty meal prep for approximately 75 people. Generally, we are looking for a simple well-rounded dinner that is appealing (especially for kids). (Soup & salad, baked potato bar, pasta bar, breakfast for dinner, etc.) Hours approximately 2:00-7:00pm.

Occasionally, we have additional events or outside groups that need meal service or supervision as they prepare meals. You will have the first opportunity for those hours. Hours vary with more work during the school year and easy summers. WE WOULD BE WILLING TO HIRE ONLY FOR THE WEDNESDAY PORTION OF THIS POSITION!

Responsibilities:
  • Prepare and cook a variety of meals.
  • Oversee Sunday coffee fellowship time.
  • Menu planning, taking into consideration nutritional value.
  • Shopping for groceries and supplies.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen, including proper storage of food items.
  • Operate kitchen equipment safely and efficiently, including knives and other cooking tools.
  • Help train and mentor volunteers in food preparation techniques and kitchen protocols.

Qualifications:

  • Dependable, responsible, self-motivated, detail-oriented.
  • Previous experience as a Cook or in a similar role within food service is preferred.
  • Strong culinary skills with the ability to follow recipes accurately.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail in food presentation.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with volunteers of differing skill sets while maintaining high standards of hygiene and safety.
  • Flexibility to work various shifts, including evenings and weekends as needed.

Job Type: Part-time
Expected hours: 5 – 15 per week, mornings and evenings

Administrative Assistant Job Summary
​English Lutheran Church is looking for one dependable Administrative Assistant to perform general office duties for the membership of our church and keep our office running smoothly!

The Administrative Assistant will serve as receptionist, provide office administrative support for members, staff, and visitors, and foster a welcoming environment for all who visit English Lutheran Church.

This Monday-Friday position is up to 30 hours week, with a flexible schedule between 8:00-4:00pm. Hours will vary based on school year vs. summer, with summers being even more flexible.

Responsibilities:
  • Serve as first point of contact for members and visitors, providing a warm, welcoming atmosphere.
  • Maintain databases in ICON CMO, including membership records, mailing lists, class lists, attendance/communion records.
  • Respond to requests for emergency financial assistance.
  • Create and print bulletins and other materials for weekend worship, funerals, weddings, ensuring volunteers have information needed.
  • Assist with communications (printing and assembling bulk mailings, special bulletins,
    e-news, website updates, graphic design, social media).
  • The Office Manager handles most financial duties; however, the Administrative Assistant may help with tasks such as writing checks, entering donations, etc.
  • In conjunction with the Office Manager, maintain an accurate church calendar, office supply inventory, and schedule maintenance of office machines.
  • Attend weekly staff meetings.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Office Manager or Senior Pastor.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in all matters.
  • Proficiency in keyboarding skills, Microsoft Office Suite, Canva, Constant Contact, Weebly, social media, office machines, and willingness to learn church software (ICON CMO).
  • Graphic design skills preferred, but not required.
  • Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize, and multi-task, with acute attention to details.
  • Post-secondary study in administrative or secretarial skills, or equivalent experience (3-5 years) is required.

Custodian ​Job Summary
The Custodian is the caretaker of the church building and grounds, and is responsible for maintaining and protecting the exterior and interior of English Lutheran Church, while staying aware of church emergency policies and procedures.

Responsibilities:
  • Care for the church building and grounds, and all that entails daily, weekly, monthly quarterly, and yearly. This includes typical custodial work (cleaning, trash and recycling, minor repairs) as well as coordinating routine maintenance with outside vendors for maximum efficiency.
  • Set up, tear down, and rearrange spaces daily according to the church calendar.
  • Ordering and picking up custodial supplies.
  • Lawn care includes: mowing, watering, dethatching, fertilizing, weeding as well as helping maintain flower/perennial areas.
  • Snow/ice removal from sidewalks and entryways. Parking lot and alley are contracted out.
  • Working with Property Committee volunteers on special projects.
  • Learn, use, and maintain all cleaning equipment and materials with skill.
  • Attend weekly Staff Meetings, monthly Property Committee meetings, as well as participate in Staff Development opportunities.
  • Works in a spirit of cooperation with other members of the staff and the congregation.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Office Manager and/or Senior Pastor.

Qualifications:

  • Dependable, responsible, self-motivated, detail-oriented.
  • Basic skills and experience with computers (Microsoft Outlook/Office, scheduling HVAC system, ordering supplies).
  • Organizational and planning skills, and a willingness to work alongside volunteers.
  • Ability to bend, reach, stoop, kneel, and stand for long periods. Must have the ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds and have complete mobility in building and grounds activities.
  • Good knowledge of basic mechanical functions to service equipment and troubleshoot HVAC alerts.

Expected hours: 40 per week

Hours are adjusted to fit the most populated times the church is in use, which includes weddings, funerals, and special events. Typical work schedule is first shift, however days off may be adjusted based on needs of the church and employees availability and preference. (Currently, the schedule has worked out for Sundays-Thursdays anytime between 7:30-5:00.)
