pLAN YOUR VISIT

hello!

We're glad you're here! If you are new to the area or just new to English Lutheran, our website will give you a snapshot of who we are as a congregation. Stick around, browse the site, and get a feeling for what our congregation is like - a vibrant and active body of Christ. Who we are as a church is often described by what we do. We worship in many different and wonderful ways. We serve each other and the world around us. Put simply, there is a lot of love here for God and one another. However, this website can only delve so deeply. Worship with us. Visit with us. Ask questions . While you can get an idea of what ELC is all about, you can only get that good feeling of this church community by walking through the doors.

ADDRESS

WORSHIP TIMES

1509 King Street, La Crosse, WI 54601

Parking: Our parking lot is on 16th St between King & Main Streets. Street parking is also available on King Street, 15th, 16th Streets, and beyond. We suggest you allow extra time for parking. We are a large and active church, but let's face it: we're in the middle of a residential neighborhood. Our parking lot is only so big, so come early to grab parking and a cup of coffee or allow time to walk a block.
Saturday: 5:00pm and Sunday 9:00am. Sunday is always livestreamed!
Nursery: We LOVE children to actively participate in worship but do offer a nursery for those who need it. In the narthex, you'll also find Little Lutheran activity bags and sensory items for all ages.

College Students: English Lutheran Church welcomes area college students from UW-La Crosse, Viterbo University, and Western Technical College. Worship with us. Have fun while you're here. Volunteer your time. Let us be your church home away from home during the school year!

Each September we hold a "College Student Sunday." Pastor Kathryn from LuMin Campus Ministry will be at worship services on September 19 & 20, 2026.

Check out LuMin Campus Ministry. LuMin is building a community as diverse as our campuses. You don’t have to have it all together. You just have to be you. Contact Pastor Kathryn for more information, or drop by any time. They're on the corner of 14th and Pine, just across from Angell Hall.

Forgiveness & Reconciliation

We are reconciled to God by God's forgiving mercy. Forgiveness and reconciliation flow from what God has made us to be in Jesus Christ and what God is doing with us in the world. As a people of God, we embody forgiveness in speech, action and relationships, and our ministry in reconciliation is foundational. Reconciling in Christ advocates for the full welcome, inclusion, and quality for ALL Lutherans as equal members in the family of Christ. English Lutheran Church voted February 11, 2024 to become a Reconciling in Christ congregation! Learn more here!

Dignity, Compassion & Justice

Each person is created in God's image. We respect this God-given right to dignity and, inspired by the life of Jesus, show love and compassion for all people. Through proclamation of the Gospel, through worship and as servants of God working for healing and justice in the world, we uphold and seek to protect the dignity and human rights of all people.

Inclusion & Diversity

As Christ's church, we value the richness of God's creation and offer a radical welcome to all people, appreciating our common humanity and our differences. We are a church that does not view diversity as a barrier to unity. We recognize and will challenge dynamics of power and privilege that create barriers to participation and equity in this church and society – for women, people of color, minority ethnic groups, people with disabilities, people who are marginalized or living in poverty, and the LGBTQIA+ community.

Courage & Openness to Change

Because we trust in God's promise and understand faith to be a living, daring confidence in God's grace, we are emboldened to embrace learning and change in our spiritual and institutional journey as church. This means we are open to new ways and willing to take risks to discover God's plan for this church.

Faithful Stewardship

As church together, faithful stewardship is about holding to God's purpose and ensuring the responsibilities and resources that God has entrusted to us are used with great care and with accountability to God, to each other and those served by this church.
Other questions? Stop by the office or Welcome Center for a friendly hello and find out more!
We pray you will find at ELC a warm and inviting worship space, lots of friendly faces, and leave here feeling lifted by the Holy Spirit!

Frequently asked questions...

what's WORSHIP LIKE?
Worship is an interactive, gospel-based experience for all ages.
WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?
ELC is known as The Welcome Place. We have a "come as you are" attitude and our congregation wears everything from suits to sneakers.
WHAT DOES English lutheran BELIEVE?
English Lutheran is a Reconciling in Christ congregation (RIC) of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). We believe that all people are imperfect and sinful. We are saved (made right with God) by God’s grace alone, through Christ — not by prayer, mindset, or good deeds. Through the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, God became one of us and took on the world’s sin and suffering to show divine love. We receive the gift of grace by faith and know that we are forgiven even as we struggle with sin. We trust that through Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit, we are freed to live with gratitude and love.
can i worship online?
Of course you can! We offer livestreamed videos for our Sunday service on both Twitch and Youtube.
what should i expect?
You should expect to be welcomed and loved here no matter where you are in your life. You should expect to hear about Jesus and why he matters. You should expect that your questions are welcomed.
I'm not a member, can i still have communion?
At English Lutheran, we believe that this is the Lord's Table, not our table. Regardless of if you're a member or not, everyone is welcome to the blood and body of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
