English Lutheran Church is joining several other area congregations to raise walls, funds, and prayer for the Faith Build Program—a partnership between Habitat for Humanity and Thrivent Financial to construct a new home in our community. Habitat broke ground on September 17, 2020. The house and fundraising must be finished by June 30, 2021. The home is for Liberty Olson and her two sons, Braxten (8) and Treyven (5), who are desperately looking for a place to call their own. The family currently lives in a tiny apartment. Liberty is beyond excited to become a Habitat homeowner. One of her dreams is to build a house and have the ability to afford it.
Fortunately, we have a huge head-start on this project. Thrivent provided a grant of $87,500 to Habitat toward the new home—taking care of half of the costs already. This grant needs to be matched through a combination of in-kind donations of materials and labor and cash contributions.
English Lutheran’s goal is to raise a minimum of $10,000, with a "victory goal" of $15,000. We believe this is quite achievable, especially since lead gifts and pledges of labor, materials, and cash total more than $6,000 before fundraising efforts have even started!
Fundraising and volunteer events will be announced as needed. If you would like to get involved, contact Lisa Jacobson at 608-485-0367.
